The dark skies showed a glint of light peeping from its corners, one by one- the birds began their morning call and life on the ranch was still sleepy- it was in the midst of this scene I knew it was time to get out of bed. I rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes and made my way to the hammock in the verandah. This was my place to witness magic.

Surely, moment by moment Ð the light cleared a path through the darkness and I stayed there as the witness to our amazing world and daybreak! This scene I have been fortunate to witness several times and is one of my favourite things to do.

There are a myriad of places one can visit, but very few take you by the hand, capture your heart and leave you suspended in time. This is how I feel about Saddle Mountain Ranch.

This is a family run ranch where it feels like coming home to the warmth of familiar people. It is the home of the Kenyons. Aunty Joan, always ready with a smile, is there to make sure you are well fed and taken care of. Uncle Tommy, is a character with many stories and that cowboy charm. Their home display numerous trophies won by their children: Michelle, Ayla, Judah and Kimberley at the Annual Rupununi Rodeo over the years. The ranching lifestyle is very evident and around which their experience is built. The Ranch is located in South Central Rupununi, approximately three hours travel by vehicle from Lethem. The journey there will provide a view of the rolling savannahs of the Rupununi and its mountains. If you are lucky, catching sight of a Giant Anteater is possible

Currently, there are two self-contained cabins which can accommodate four persons; additionally, guests can be accommodated in the main house or in hammocks. Meals are a treat with an array of local and Brazilian inspired cuisine.

The Ranch exudes an easy-going vibe. It seems as if time stands still and there are no cares in the world. Who couldn’t do with a feeling like that in their lives?

The views around the ranch offer savannah and peaks in the distance while the breeze sweeps through, life lazily moves by while you observe from your hammock. This is one option of how to spend your time.

Alternatively, you can experience life as a vacquero (cowboy) as you set out to the cereal to witness the cattle round up activities such as lassoing and branding. Feel the wind through your hair and adrenaline as you horseback through the savannah.

For the adventurer in you, overnight camping at Kusad Mountain or along the Takutu River are options. For the experienced riders, horseback along a safari trail while having a rustic experience of camping along the way. For the chill vibes, the nearby creek provides a refreshing swim or take the boat and try your hand at fishing.

Did I mention that this location serves up some amazing sunrise and sunset moments? This is the experience I love. It is in these moments where I escape the ordinary and embrace the wonder of nature. One can take the 45 minute hike up Saddle Mountain to catch the elevated rays or have a lower savannah view, this one has the added allure of Anteater spotting.

Saddle Mountain Ranch offers differing experiences but I can guarantee, just being there is an experience! It is the ultimate reset button location. It is freedom to be, to explore and feel at peace. It’s quiet will be all the calming vibes you need in your life.

As I ponder on my next visit and savoring its moments, this is my invitation to you, to have your Saddle Mountain Ranch experience.

Will you join me?
